The only condition for creating a basic account is that you must provide your real name and contact information. It is recommended that you create your account using your professional (work or school) e-mail address.
The surveys made on this site follow a structured, four-step "informed consent" process which complies with requirements of university research ethics boards (IRBs). This makes the surveys look different from marketing or public opinion surveys. Most surveys on this site are made by school counselors and graduate students or faculty in "helping professions" fields, such as counseling, psychology or social work.
Due to financial limitations, free survey services can be offered only to members of these professional groups.
If you are a member of a different professional specialization, such as teaching (or if you just want to make a survey), please click here for a list of resources that may help you find other, free survey services.
Before making any survey on this site, you must agree to follow the American Counseling Association's code of ethics for survey usage, that you will obey any applicable laws regarding surveys with minors, and that any surveys you make will meet "minimal-risk" characteristics (in other words, that you will not ask questions about topics potentially traumatic, embarrassing, or sensitive).
Any account holder is welcome to submit an article for publication on Counseling A to Z. This means that anyone is welcome to write an original article, much like the wikipedia.
For an article to be published on Counseling A to Z, a volunteer editor must review it and approve it. To become a volunteer editor, your institutional affiliation (university, school or clinic where you work or study) or professional license number (e.g., LPC, LMFT, LCSW) must be verified by a site administrator. Verification is simple and usually can be done by e-mail. This step helps ensure that the views reflected on the knowledge base are perspectives from within the field. You do not need to become verified to write and submit articles.
